Liangchi Zhang is Scientia Professor, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Head of Laboratory for Precision & Nano Processing Technologies UNSW; prior to which, he has worked in the University of Cambridge, Japan National Mechanical Engineering Laboratory and University of Sydney and has been the Associate Dean of Engineering and Director of Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Sydney. Liangchi received his PhD in 1988 from Peking University China, and was awarded a higher doctorate degree by the University of Sydney in 2005 for his systematic contributions to the field of precision manufacturing. He was elected the Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering in 2006. Liangchi’s research emphasizes both fundamentals and applications in the interdisciplinary area of manufacturing, solid mechanics and advanced materials. His work is well received by his peers in mechanical manufacturing. He has been granted many academic awards, including the “B-HERT Award for Best Research and Development Collaboration” and “UNSW Inventor of the Year 2011”. Liangchi has 7 patents, 6 authored books, 15 edited books, 18 book chapters and ~350 journal papers. He has been the editor and editorial board member of many international journals, and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Springer book series in precision manufacturing.
