Prof. Liangzhong Yao

Biography: Liangzhong YAO received his MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Currently he is the Dean of Smart Grid Institute, and also the Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Wuhan University, China. Prior to Whuan University in 2019, he was a post doctoral research associate at the University of Manchester (1995-1999), the Senior Power System Analyst at ABB UK Ltd (1999-2004), the Department Manager and Senior Expert at Alstom Grid UK (2004-2011), the Vice President at State Grid Electric Power Research Institute (2011-2012), and the Vice President and Honorary Chief Engineer at China Electric Power Research Institute (2012-2018). His research fields cover renewable energy grid integration and control, energy storage, and HVDC and DC grid technologies. Prof Yao is the Fellow of IET and Fellow of IEEE.
